On June 17, 2021, a woman personally filed a complaint with the police that someone had taken nearly 200,000 forints from her bank card. In the morning, the victim left his bag with his wallet, mobile phone and other valuables in Debrecen. When she returned home, she immediately checked her cash flow that day at netbank, and then she was struck that someone had made a successful transaction with her bank card several times.
Police began investigating the case and then identified a man who was suspected of being linked to the crime. The 30-year-old local resident was arrested and interrogated as a suspect. He made a detailed confession and told investigators that he had found the bag in Jászai Mari Square and then quickly scanned it in a less busy place. Since he found a PIN in addition to the bank card in his wallet, his first trip led to a mall. He did not want to buy anything, but looked for an ATM and then deducted nearly HUF 200,000 from the victim’s account.
The Debrecen Police Headquarters investigated him on the basis of a well-founded suspicion of fraud and misappropriation. The police took the necessary procedural steps and sent the resulting documents to the competent prosecutor’s office.
