Two men were sentenced to life imprisonment, who killed an elderly woman in Pocsaj, Hajdú-Bihar County, in 2019, and their juvenile partner was sentenced to 14 years in prison, a spokesman for the Debrecen Judgment Board informed MTI.

Ildikó Fórizs stated that the sentencing panel changed the first-instance verdict to the extent that it also found the guilt of all three accused in the crime of premeditated homicide. It raised the earliest date for parole for adult defendants from 25 to 35 years and from 20 to 25 years, respectively. The judgment is final.

The court found the three defendants guilty of manslaughter out of profit, with particular cruelty, in the crime of homicide to the detriment of a person with limited ability to prevent the crime due to old age, and in the crime of group violation of privacy.

On July 25, 2019, the three defendants drank together in Pocsaj. After drinking, at the suggestion of the 17-year-old boy, they broke into the apartment of a 94-year-old woman, thinking that values could be easily obtained there.

After midnight, they reached the victim’s house, pulled a mask over their heads, and then jumped on the fence. In the courtyard, they noticed that the television light was on in one of the rooms, so they waited and then sneaked to the back of the house, where the lowered shutter was pushed up by hand and climbed underneath. They looked around every room inside but found no money or jewelry, so they went out into the yard. Waiting for a while, they decided to go into the room where the victim is and get the ring the third-degree defendant had previously seen on the old woman’s hand.

The woman, who woke up to the noise, was hit several times after being pushed to the ground, further abused, and kicked. After they left, the woman still had enough power to notify one of her relatives. The victim was taken to the hospital by an ambulance, but died a few weeks later.
